Your best 5-step morning routine

Benefits of having a consistent morning routine: bye to anxiety, hi to joy!

Having a consistent morning routine can be highly effective in reducing stress, anxiety while boosting productivity, joy and happiness every day.

By getting yourself into the right positive frame of mind, you will not only start the day with a spring in your step but also make the most of the limited time we all have every day.

How to find your best morning routine?

Investing 5-30 minutes in a morning routine pays back multiple times. Careful though before you blindly adopt somebody else’s routine without double-checking it’s right for your needs. To get maximum benefit, you must make sure your morning routine is personalised to you! This means it has the right focus elements to support you with your most pertinent life challenges, the right location and surround, the right length of time (5 min or 30 min).

Adapting it to suit you!

They key is always to consciously create the morning routine that’s right for you. You can work with trial and error till you find the right one or simply work with a coach to get yours set up swiftly knowing it will produce results for you. It should not take more than 3-4 sessions. To make it really simply, I have even developed a 4 Step Personalised Morning Routine  for you that takes you through the steps to develop your ideal routine and also shows you HOW to actually carry out each chosen step. It takes only 2 coaching sessions or my 2hour morning routine short-course. Contact me if you are interested.

For me personally, the most important thing about my morning routine is to connect with the positive energy I want to hold and be recognised for throughout the day. In the old days it was more about achievement I admit. What are you trying to get out of it?

I absolutely love this 20 min morning routine:

For starters, and contrary to many scientists advice about morning routines, I like to stay in bed. So I sit up in bed while I do mine. Before I get started, I drink a glass of water and get myself a mug of coffee, matcha tea or hot water with lemon. Then I take the following 5 steps below:

1. Checking into my body

I either focus on consciously noticing my breathing for 1 min or – if I have more time, I do a slow full mental body scan sending positive energy into every part of me. Focusing on your body in the here and now prevents you from worrying and feeling anxious or stressed as these emotions cannot exist in the here and now of connection with your body. It is always the uncertain future we worry or feel anxious about. There are several other options that I sometimes alternate with just to keep my routine fresh.

2. Creating positive emotions

My absolutely favourite element is the gratefulness exercise, simply focusing on something I am extremely grateful for. I love how it forces my attention from what is lacking in my life to what I have and can be grateful for. I focus on different thing to be grateful for on different days and love how it produces an abundance of joyful emotions right from the start of the day.

3. Affirmations

Choosing an intention for the day is the first element that takes me away from the here and now to the near future, i.e. the day ahead. I prefer to choose a state or how I want to be of service to others that day but of course you could choose your most important achievement or goal as well. This gives you a conscious focus for the day ahead and prevents you from getting distracted

4. Setting an Intention

5. Visualisation

Finally, I visualise a positive version of the day ahead and in my mind already enjoy it. I find this motivates me and adds even more positive excitement about the day.

I am now ready to get up, getting started with my coaching work, going for a run or heading to the gym.
